Budding Spielberg’s will have an opportunity to develop their film making skills in South Belfast this summer. As part of the Queen’s Film Theatre’s (QFT) Learning programme, 36 young people, aged 12-17, will have the opportunity to work with film industry professionals to write, shoot and perform their own mini masterpiece. The project is supported by the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme and will be facilitated by creative industry specialists Giga Training.
3 groups will take part in film industry focussed programmes, getting hands on experience at being scriptwriters, directors, camera operators, editors and much more. Under the guidance of professional trainers, who have years of experience working in the film industry both in NI and beyond, each participant will work as part of a team to create their own short film based on the theme of identity, exploring what it means to be a young person living in Greater Belfast.
Not only will participants have access to a full suite of state of the art film equipment but will also be guided on how to gain experience in the NI film industry, details of the roles available and signposted on how to access work experience opportunities within the industry, and gain new transferable skills.
Marion Campbell QFT Education Officer added;
We are delighted to be able to play our part in facilitating this very exciting project. Over the course of the programme we are looking forward to watching the young people develop and acquire new skills which will not only support their employability development but offer them a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the fascinating world of film making. We look forward to seeing the film productions at the end of the 5 day workshops, as well as meeting with the film makers of the future.
