Giga Training teamed up with Northern Ireland’s iconic picture house, The Strand Arts Centre, to offer 24 young people from Belfast the opportunity to get a taste of what its like to work in the film industry, which is an increasingly viable career option in Northern Ireland.
The aim of the project was to address specific areas of the Moving Image GCSE and A level syllabus analysing the signature directorial styles of Baz Luhrmann and Alfred Hitchcock. The Strand Film Maker’s Club was split into two one-week summer courses for secondary school students designed to give an insight into the film industry.
The students worked with Giga’s team of industry professionals to research, shoot, act, produce, direct and edit their own short films, which were screened as part of a gala premiere event in The Strand Cinema. The initiative was co-funded by Arts & Business and Hughes Insurance in partnership with the Strand Arts Centre and Giga Training.
